Gloria Cleven, 80, of Grygla, MN died at her home in Grygla, MN on Friday, July 6, 2012. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, July 16, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Pastor Clark Hjelle officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery, (Log Church Cemetery) rural Grygla, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8 on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Gloria Joyce Ardith Nelson was born on May 31, 1932 to Seymore and Ethel Marian (Kappedal) Nelson in Thief River Falls, MN. She accepted Jesus as her personal savior and was baptized by immersion in the mid 1980's. She attended Sunny Side School in rural Thief River Falls. She then attended Lincoln High School and graduated in 1950. She took nurses training in Thief River Falls and worked as an LPN in the nursery at the hospital. She was united in marriage to Albert Carlton Cleven on May 14, 1955 at the parsonage in Grygla, MN. In 1958, they made a homestead in Lee Township, Beltrami Co, southeast of Grygla. She worked for over 40 years at Valley Home. After retiring from Valley Home, she helped out her son and daughter in law at the Grain Bin Diner in Grygla, up until a couple of months ago. Gloria loved the Lord, and didn't miss her daily devotions. Gloria enjoyed crocheting, knitting, word finds, puzzles, attending auction sales, traveling, gardening. She loved to ride carnival rides. She enjoyed going with the grandkids to softball on Wednesday nights. For the past three months, she has lived with her daughter and son in law Rena and Steve in Warroad. She loved music and especially polka music on Saturday nights. Many people in the community referred to her as "Grandma Gloria." She enjoyed going to the Grygla sporting events. She never wanted to be a bother to others. She was a member of the Community Bible Church in Grygla.
Gloria is survived by four children: Rena (Steven) Doebler, Warroad, MN, Susan Cleven, Owasso, OK, Gary (Debra) Cleven, Bovey, MN, Terry (Kim) Cleven, Grygla, MN, grandchildren: Joel (Tammie) Doebler, Warroad, MN, Jennifer (Eric) Erickson, Warroad, MN, Jonathon Doebler, Park City, UT, Josh Corneillie, Fargo, ND, Carlton Cleven, Grygla, Cory Cleven, Grygla, MN, two great grandchildren: Zackary and Anthony Erickson, one brother Howard (Margie) Nelson, Thief River Falls, MN, two sisters: Beverly (Bob) Pietrowski, Shakopee, MN, Elaine Lee, Thief River Falls, MN, sisters in law Kathy Nelson, Thief River Falls, MN, Sylvia Nelson, Thief River Falls, MN, Ardelle Bryant, Owasso, OK, brother in law Charles (Margie) Cleven, Warroad, MN, sister in law Doris Cleven, Grygla, and several nieces and nephews.
