Cora Sue Whitaker, 90, died at 3:45 AM on January 8, 2018. Cora Sue was a virtuous mother, grandmother and wife. She retired from the V.A. Hospital in Memphis with 33 years of service as a Medical Secretary. She was a member of the Knight Arnold Church of Christ a congregation her and her husband, the late E.L. Whitaker, Jr. started January of 1959. Born in Atkins, AR, she was the youngest of six children of John Luther Minor and Stella Webb Minor. She is preceded by her husband, Emory Lon Whitaker Jr., her son Emory Lon Whitaker III, her grandson, John Clifton Whitaker, her parents, her four brothers, Dale Minor, Webb Minor, J.L. Minor and Jim Minor and one sister, Mary Ella Minor. She survived by her sons, Michael J. Whitaker and his wife Sharon of Pittsburg, PA; John D. Whitaker and his wife Janet of Oakland, TN. Her daughter in -law Mitzi Lee Whitaker of Cordova. Her grandson John Aaron Whitaker of Memphis, TN; granddaughters Jennifer Wadsworth of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jennifer Bailey Hutchinson of Memphis, TN; and her nieces Mary Lynn Minor Hawkins of Pottsville, AR, Martha Minor Cocklin of Wichita, KS, Mary Minor Ladd of Tonkawa, OK and Janet’ Whitaker of Denver, CO; her nephews Dr. Lloyd Minor of CA, Cleave Reasoner of MO, John Clyde Reasoner of Dallas, TX and four great children —all of whom will miss her greatly. There will be a visitation on Thursday, January 11th from 5-8pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12th at 1pm, also at the funeral home. The burial will immediately follow.
