Mrs. Verna Mae Ainsworth Keathley was born May 8, 1916 in Lytle, Bexar County, Texas to Franklin Berry Ainsworth and Sarah Amanda Barlow Ainsworth. Her family later moved to Henderson County and finally to Navarro County where she has been a resident since 1922. Verna Mae graduated from Barry High School in May 1934.
Verna Mae married Malvin Findley Keathley, of the Pinkston/Barry Community, on November 4, 1934. They were members of the Barry Church until they moved to the Eleventh Avenue Methodist Church in Corsicana in 1937. In 1974, this church family became St. Luke's United Methodist Church, moving to the current location on North Bowie Drive. With this transition Malvin and Verna Mae had the opportunity to become involved with the United Methodist Women and the Men's Club.
In 1948, Malvin and Verna Mae adopted their daughter, Rebecca, with assistance from the United Methodist Church and the Texas Mission Home and Training School in San Antonio, Texas. Verna Mae always loved children and enjoyed serving people, which led to 42 years working in retail sales as well as baby-sitting all across town.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters and 5 brothers, her husband and her daughter.
She is survived by her grandchildren; Jessica McManus Paul and husband, Alon, Bruce Findley McManus and Crystal Criddle, Jennifer McManus Robinson and Steve Allen and son-in-law, Alvin "Wayne" Price. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Jennifer, Chase, Pam, Meranda and Brett as well as numerous great-great grandchildren.
