Jacob became a lay preacher later in life and then an ordained preacher in the True Dutch Reformed Church in South Holland, IL. He lead a small group of about 12 families who split off from the C.R.C. church. Jacob was then disqualified as a preacher and ejected from the church in 1876. Jacob also was a teacher in the Christian School for a few years before 1876.

Jacob last shows up in the 1880 Federal Census and then disappears from the records and does not show up in the 1900 Federal Census.

Jacob died sometime between 1880 and 1900.
