BLACKWOOD Ruth M. 89, of Edmond, passed away, September 22, 2003 after a brief illness. Ruth was born in Colorado Springs, Co. on April 26, 1914 to Edna Jane and Thomas Ball. She was a retired secretary. Ruth was married to C. I. Blackwood, owner of Blackwood Business College, and she helped him run the school for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband C. I., her son Charles Blackwood, her four siblings Vera Sampson, Frances Burton, Thomas Ball and Virginia Smith and three step-children Roy Blackwood, Rosie Weislger, and David Blackwood. She is survived by her daughters Judy Blackwood and Mary Norman, both of Edmond, step-daughter Betty Alsbrook of Tahlequah, and grandchildren Jennifer Norman and Andrew Norman, plus a host of step-grandchildren and great-grand-children. Ruth was a loving and caring wife to C. I. during his lengthy illness, and a faithful Christian who loved the Lord, and enjoyed studying His Word. She was a tireless worker for her church and for the mission of Christ. She accepted the position of church secretary on a temporary basis and retired from that post 23 years later. Ruth will always be remembered for her gentle spirit and her faithfulness. Services will be at Lone Star Baptist Church 1805 E. Hefner Road, Oklahoma City, on Thursday September 25, at 11:00 a.m. Under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, Oklahoma.
