GRANT DELINGER DIED TODAY AT ORESTES HOME
Aged Resident Had Been Ill There For Several Months
MEMBER ORESTES LODGE
Grant Delinger, age 75, one of the best known residents of the Orestes community, expired at 11:15 a.m. today at the family home there following an illness of several months with complications. However, he was not obliged to take to his bed until about four weeks ago.
For over 37 years, Mr. Delinger was an employee of the Nickel Plate railroad, retiring only a few years ago. Since his retirement and up to his last illness, he had been active as a flagman for the railroad in Elwood.
He was born on May 10, 1865 in Rush county, Indiana, the son of William H. and Margaret (Warfield) Delinger, and lived there until 1886 when he came to this community. Here he was united in marriage to Mrs. Nancy Thornburg, to whom three sons were born, and all survive.
In August, 1927, Mrs. Delinger passed away and he was married a second time, to Mrs. Martha L. Smith in June, 1930. She survives him with the sons, Clarence, Anderson; Charles, Orestes; and Otis, Alexandria; three brothers, Elmer, Anderson; James Alvin, Orestes; and Ennis, Elwood; five grandchildren and three step-children.
The deceased was a member of the Orestes Christian church and the Orestes Knights of Pythias lodge. The body was brought here to the Roger C. Gipe funeral home to be prepared for burial and will probably be returned to the home Saturday afternoon to lie in state. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
