Through the preaching of the late Oliver Smith, Anna new she needed a savior. In June of 1926 she trusted Christ and was in fellowship with the saints at Hitesville Gospel Hall.
Anna entered the Presbyterian Home in Ackley, Iowa in November of 1991. Anna died Friday December 9, 1994, at the Presbyterian home in Ackley, Iowa. She reached the age of 98 years 9 months and 9 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in October of 1992, her parents, three sisters and one brother.
Anna is survived by two sons, Martin DeVries a resident of the Presbyterian Home in Ackley, Iowa, his wife, Sena of Aplington, Iowa, Earl and his wife Magdalene DeVries of rural Aplington, Iowa, one daughter, Martha Fitzgerald Bellaire, Texas, for grandchildren, for great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 12, 1994 at Hitesville Gospel Hall in rural Aplington, Iowa with Robert Orr and Leonard DeBuhr officiating. A duet was sung by Bud and Betty Williams singing "blessed assurance" the fellowship sang "friendship" and "safe in the arms of Jesus". Casket bears were Gary DeVries, Henry Dunn, Paul DeVries Marvin DeVries, Herman DeVries, Dennis Johnson, Lubert DeVries and Ronnie Wessels. Interment was in the Hitesville Cemetery in rural Aplington, Iowa. Swartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington was in charge of arrangements.
