BOYER, Emma Jean (Age 95)
(November 8, 1923 November 18, 2018)

Emma Jean Boyer, affectionately referred to as "Mom" "Grandma Jeanie", "Granny", "Emma" or "Jean" by those who knew and loved her, passed away peacefully in her home soon after her 95th birthday. She was born in Grass Valley, OR to Rea and Rex Hopper. Her parents moved to a homestead near Farmington, WA, where Emma grew up riding horses to school and learning all the essentials of living on a farm. She met her husband, Robert Boyer, while attending Farmington High School, and the couple married several years after they graduated; they were together for 52 years.

Emma attended Kinman Business School and worked for the Spokesman-Review while Robert was away serving in World War II. When he returned from war, the couple built their home in the Spokane Valley and raised two daughters, Sally and Susan. Emma was a stay-at-home mom and took care of other neighborhood children. During Christmas Season she worked part-time in the Men's Department at the Crescent. In the mid-60s, Emma went to work for Spaulding's Wrecking Yard.

The family built a cabin in Rockford Bay on Lake Coeur d'Alene around the same time, and she was able to enjoy summers there well into her nineties. After retirement, Robert and Emma dedicated their time to being with their grandsons, traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, the Southwestern U.S. and living in Yuma, Arizona during the cold winter months. Emma Jean had a warm and feisty personality and loved to be surrounded by people. She worked hard to provide a fun-loving environment for her family and friends.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Rea and Rex Hopper, brother Jack Hopper (WWII casualty), husband Robert, daughter Sally Revious and son-in-law Gary Reiter.

She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Mantz; daughter, Susan Reiter; grandsons John Marshall (Julie, Maddie, Emma, Jake), Elmer Smith II (Melissa, Ila) and Zack Reiter (Kristin, Brynn.) She has numerous nieces and nephews that also shared lifetime adventures with her.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to her caregiver, Ellie Tupper, whose services allowed Emma Jean to remain in her home during the final chapter of her life. In lieu of gifts, the family asks for a donation to Hospice of Spokane, as they were there to provide end-of-life care when the family needed them.

On Friday December 14, 2018 a Graveside Service at 2:00 followed by a memorial at 2:30 will be held at Pines Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1402 S. Pines Road, Spokane Valley, WA.
