He was born in Wanship on December 21, 1924 to Arthur Charles Hortin and Hazel Jane Hixon. He had two brothers, John (Cleon) and Frank (Mavis); and was preceded in death by his sisters, Lorraine (Vern) and Mar (Jim). He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked as a farmer, sheepherder, rancher, miner, and salesman.
Chuck married Marva Dianne Muir on October 16, 1954. She passed away on June 19, 1992. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 30, 1960. Always happy to serve in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he held many callings from Scoutmaster to Bishop and most importantly as a Home Teacher. He also served in the Jordan River Temple for many years.
After retirement, Art took up oil painting and especially enjoyed painting classes at the Harman Senior Center. His paintings hang on the walls of friends and family. He loved camping, hunting, and horses. His garden was the envy of the neighborhood and kept his ward well supplied with fresh produce.
He is survived by his children, Wayne (Teri), Dan (Robyn), and Ken (Judy); nine grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
