He was born March 22, 1917, in Mattoon, a son of W. Neil and Ruth Gray Laughlin. He married Marjorie Fitzgerald Nov. 1, 1949 in Mattoon. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Michael J. Laughlin of Westport, John N. Laughlin of Lewisville, Ky. and Bernard J. Laughlin of Mattoon; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Ann Warner of Decatur and Mrs. Trm (Patricia) Whalin of Mattoon; and 11 grandchildren.
One brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Laughlin, a 1938 graduate of Notre Dame, was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, charter member of Knights of Columbus, former member of Elks Club, member of Notre Dame of Illinois, active alumnus of Notre Dame and member of Retired State Employees Association.
He was owner operator of the family business, Laughlin and Sons Feed and Seed, formerly located next to Gehl's Hardware. He later established Laughlin and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning along with the family business and in the same building. In 1968 he began work for the State Mental Health Department and retired in 1982.
