Born in St.Stephen's Parish, Joseph died in Pineville at age 65y 6m 19ds. "He was a kind father,a faithful friend and a firm supporter of the interests of the South. His house was the abode of hospitality and his death has left a void in the hearts of his relatives, friends, and the poor which cannot be easily supplied." A raised brick crypt with a large rectangular marble slab atop marks his grave inside the Palmer enclosure.
