Alma Elaine (Bevan) Wyatt, 78, was called home to be with her Lord on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions, Salina. Elaine passed away after 20 long, courageous years dealing with cancer and various treatments.
Elaine was born Feb. 2, 1940, to Burl F. and Inez M. (McMillen) Bevan at home on the family farm near Lost Springs. She was proud to have lived in Marion County her whole life. She loved her school, her church and her community.
Elaine attended Lost Springs public schools, graduating in 1958. She was a member of the last graduating class at the Lost Springs location. After a semester off, Elaine attended Emporia State University for a semester, then returned home to become the school secretary at Centre Consolidated High School.
Elaine grew up in Lost Springs Evangelical United Brethren Church. which later became the United Methodist Church. In her adult years, she was very active in her church as a Sunday school teacher and planner of church programs for adults and children. She enjoyed her community and school activities as well. Today, if you drive by her home, you will see the cross made from hedge wood that her brother constructed for one of her church programs at least 40 years ago.
Elaine was determined to keep the original Lost Springs School Alumni banquet going as long as she could. For many years, in spite of her illness, she made sure the banquet was organized from the program to the decorations and meal. Only in the last year did she give in to the fact that she couldn’t keep it going.
Elaine loved people and took care of several friends. She would visit them, take them out to eat and drive them wherever they needed to go, sometimes out of state. She loved planning “get togethers” to eat and visit whether it be for her own family, for a cousin gathering or for teacher spouses of past association. Sadly, this ended when her health began rapidly declining.
When the Lost Springs church was closed in 1980, Elaine became a faithful part of the Lincolnville church, driving to Lincolnville even after she moved to Hillsboro. When that church closed as well, she visited other churches until her failing health helped her to decide to worship with the TV Ministry from California.
Elaine married Jim Wyatt, a Centre teacher, on Aug. 21, 1960. To this union three sons were born.
receding Elaine in death were her parents, Burl and Inez Bevan; parents-in-law, Estel and Elsie Wyatt; brothers, Robert B. Bevan and Ray F. Bevan; and brother-in-law, Robert W. Walter.
