A Vancouver resident who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, Henry Mathis, 77, died in Vancouver on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997. He retired from Alcoa in 1979 after 25 years with the company.

Mr. Mathis was born March 14, 1919, in Sylva, N.C., and had lived in the Vancouver area since 1942. He attended the Burton Church of God.

A daughter, Joann Erickson, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary E., at home; two daughters, Doris Neal and Christine Terwilleger, both of Portland; two brothers, Vance of Ashville, N.C., and Ted Mull of Sylva; two sisters, Sarah Blanton of South Carolina and Blanche Greenarch of Waynesville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. The casket will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
