The excerpt below is from the Last Will & Testament (1860) of Mary's father, John Coles Payne:

"Item, I give and bequeath to my crazy the beloved daughter Mary C. Payne now in the asylum near Hopkinsville, one-thousand dollars in full and __ controlled to me both principal and interest at her discretion, hoping her affection for her own children will induce her to preserve and apply it to her own and their use solely."

William Coles [Paine?] M 6 Ky

Her father's reference to Mary Coles Payne's "own children" in his last will and testament is certainly suggestive of a marriage and family but remains a mystery. Possibly, "John Pane" (age 1) listed in her family's household in the 1850 Green County Kentucky Census, and "William Coles [Paine?]" (age 6) listed in her widowed mother's household in the 1860 Logan County Kentucky Census might have been her sons.

Mary Coles Payne is not listed in the 1870 Patient Census of Western State Hospital. The place and date of her death are unknown. She may have been buried in an unmarked grave in Western State Hospital Cemetery.
