Lewis lived at Vernon, NY, then in Herkimer County, NY, then in Ellery, NY, then in Kennedy, NY, then in Ellington, NY, and finally in Jamestown, NY, where he died at age 97. For the greater portion of his life, he lived in Ellington (where his wife died), where he had a large farm. He also owned and operated the only tannery in the vicinity, which he later sold to his son-in-law, Harvey Nye. Lewis was, for many years, a deacon in the Congregational Church; a kindly gentleman, greatly loved by all who knew him.
