     Hiawatha's Meter Maid Dies, July 4
    Mrs. Maurine L. Dean, 58, Hiawatha's Meter Maid, died early Tuesday morning, July 4, 1967, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital after a prolonged illness. She was born Oneida, Kans., on March 21, 1909.
    Mr. Mrs. Dean returned to Hiawatha seven years ago from a ten year residency in California. For the past five years Mrs. Dean had been employed by the City of Hiawatha as the parking meter attendant. She was a member of the Christian Church, and was chaplain of the Hiawatha VFW Auxiliary.
    Survivors include her husband, Clarence of the home; her parents, Mr. Mrs. Omar Freiley, also of the home; three sons, Wilbur L. Dean of Riverside, Calif., Leland A. Dean of Kilgore, Texas, and Orville L. Dean of rural Hiawatha; her daughter, Mrs. Neil (Pauline) Constant of Ravenwood, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Wyeth (Lois) Glenn of Bakersfield, Calif.; one brother, Merle Gilliland of Hiawatha; and 12 grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at the Meek Mortuary Chapel at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, July 6, with the Rev. Clyde Mosher officiating. Interment will be at the Hamlin Cemetery.
