Steven Lamont Bodley, 61, a Master Chef and local business owner, died unexpectedly on November 17, 2018, at his home in Warren, Ohio.
Steven was born in Sherman Texas on October 6, 1957 to Jean R Bodley and Lt Otho Ray Bodley, as they were en route to the Warren area where his father was stationed at the Youngstown Air base. He was a Boatswains Mate in the US Navy and served on the USS Dixie (where he single handedly performed the clubhaul maneuver to hand brake the ship when one of the engines could not be shut down going into port).
He graduated from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in 1988 with degrees in Automotive Mechanics, Marine Engine Mechanics and Auto Body repair and later attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY. On July 15, 2000, he married Wenda after being introduced by a mutual friend. He traveled extensively and had lived and worked in California, Florida, Tennessee, New York, Wisconsin and Ohio. Most recently in Northeastern Ohio working as Flavor Benders selling baked goods and French Cuisine style oil blends at local farmers markets.
Steven was a devoted father and uncle and was an avid cooking enthusiast. He enjoyed water skiing and sailing and had participated in the Mackinac Island race, and enjoyed bicycling, water sports and fishing. He had been a snow ski instructor at Big Bear Mountain, and loved to golf. He had owned many small businesses throughout the years including a carpet Store in Brookfield and several small restaurants and home repair businesses. He enjoyed creating stained glass art and woodworking.
Steven is survived by his wife, Wenda Girt-Bodley; his step children, Nicholas, Christopher and Anna Wunderle and their families; his sister, Robin Miller and her family; brother, Scott Bodley and his family; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
He was a spiritual man and was always ready to talk to anyone about God. His carefree attitude and sense of humor carried with him throughout his life. He deeply loved his family, step children, grandchildren and nieces. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A funeral service is scheduled for November 28, 2018, at the Carl W. Hall funeral home in Warren, Ohio. Calling hours starting at 4:00pm followed by a memorial service at 6:00pm.
