Ray Dannels, 82, Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, May 18, 2007, at Fredonia Regional Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1924, in Fredonia, Kansas, to Arthur Edgar and Ida Elizabeth (Short) Dannels.
He served in the United States Army 1943-1945, where he was awarded a bronze star.
On December 30, 1951, in Paramont, California, he married Anna May Rogers. She preceded him in death May 10, 1992.
He was employed by USD 484 for more than 17 years as a custodian, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the V.F.W. in Fredonia; the National Rifle Association, and AARP.
Survivors include a daughter, Constance Rae Dannels, Parsons, KS; two sons, John Edward and Robert Anthony Dannels, both of Fredonia, KS; a sister, Irene Smith, Fredonia, KS; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Graveside services, will be May 22, 2007, at the Fredonia City Cemetery, with Rev. Matt Newton of the Living Hope Southern Baptist Church in Parsons, KS, officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Ft. Riley personnel.
A memorial has been established in his name with the National Rifle Association and may be sent to the funeral home.
