Her paternal grandparents were Oakley Eskridge, FindAGrave #51150846 and Elizabeth Ann VanAsdalen Eskridge, FindAGrave #11846054. Oakley was a Private in the Indiana Infantry, Company D. He was captured during service in the Civil War and died while imprisoned at Andersonville Georgia, also known as Fort Sumter.
She married Eljay (Jay) Humes on October 20, 1920 in Starke County Indiana. They had two daughters before her death at the young age of twenty four.
