Gladys Hatfield, 94, of Sprigg, died July 30, 2003, in Huntington, West Virginia. She was born on Oct. 11, 1908, in Virginia, to Casper Eugene and Sarah Jane (Perdue) Blankenship. She was a retired postmaster at Sprigg with 20 years of service. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Emitt Hatfield (married April 20, 1927); one son, Auldie Gene Hatfield; four brothers, Ed, Harry, Tom, and Okey Blankenship; three sisters, Beulah New, Mamie New, and Vena Mitchelle; one grandson, Charles Joseph Dudley; and one great-grandson, Mark Barnette. Gladys is survived by one son, Jack (Peggy); one daughter, Ethel Griffey Glendean (Charles); one brother, Herbert; and one sister, Carry; 10 grandchildren, Phillip, Greg, Chris, Deborah J., Tammy, Linda, Judy, Jenny, Gladys, and Anita; 12 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be at the Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson. Burial will be in the Hatfield Cemetery at Sprigg.
