She grew up on a farm near Genoa, attending school through the eighth grade after which she helped her mother manage the chores of raising seven children. Always industrious, she worked several jobs until marrying John Borowiak. John died unexpectedly after the birth of their first child, Marilyn. Looking for work after the depression, she traveled west to San Diego, California. She found employment with Consolidated Manufacturing and became one of the young, hard working women of the second World War known as "Rosy the Riveters". She met her second husband Dean Augustine while working in San Diego. They were married on October 9, 1944, in Vero Beach, Florida. After staying in San Diego until 1950, Lucille and Dean moved to Columbus, Nebraska, where they started Augustine Construction. Lucille was responsible for designing and drawing the plans of the homes that Dean built. They had a son named Joseph and a daughter named Patricia.
Lucille and Dean went into semi-retirement in 1978, moving to Concord, California. Two years after Dean's death in 1994, Lucille moved from Concord to Denver, Colorado. She lived in Denver until 2004 before moving to the Woodmark Retirement Center in Sun City, Arizona. She lived an active life at the Woodmark until her death on May 18, 2007, at the age of 91.
