A graduate of Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Collings was a retired pediatrician whose practice was in Anderson, SC. Tom was a founding member of the Anderson Community Orchestra and served on the board of Young Life in Anderson. He also did mission work in Venezuela, was a member of the Kiwanis Club and loved to deer hunt. Dr. Collings was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and served as a deacon in a number of Southern Baptist churches.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jimmie Ann McGee Collings; children, Sharon Collings Licata (Steven) of Ridgeway, SC, Thomas A. Collings Jr. (Delanie) of Spartanburg, SC, and Samuel A. Collings of Maryland; grandchildren, Andrea Licata Cowart (Burke), Robert Thomas Licata, Jennifer Brewton Collings, Holly Collings Coesens (Brian), Catherine Collings Blevins (David), Rev. Thomas A. “Tad” Collings III (Jessica), Meya Collings and Samuel A. Collings Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Gilbeart H. Collings Jr.; and sister, Hazel Collings Poe.
Visitation will be 11:30 AM-12:45 PM Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Morningside Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 897 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, with funeral services following at 1:00 PM, conducted by The Rev. Steven R. Owensby and The Rev. Thomas Collings, III. Burial will be in “Cemetery Hill” Woodland Cemetery at Clemson University, Woodland Dr., Clemson, SC 29631.
