CLAIRE ROCHE ANDRESS, 85, of Pinewood Lane in Ridgeland, Mississippi, passed away in Jackson, Mississippi on February 12, 2018.
Claire Marie Roche was born in Schenectady, New York on April 30, 1932, to the late Helen (Nigriny) and Peter Roche. An only child, she grew up on Oakwood Avenue and enjoyed spending time with her extended family at their camp on Lake George. Claire was an accomplished dancer and a “Red Raider,” graduating from Mont Pleasant High School as a member of the Class of 1950. Thereafter, she began her career as a librarian at the General Electric Company Research Laboratory in Schenectady. It was at the Lab Library that Claire met her husband-to-be, Edward Andress.

Soon after marriage, Claire and Ed journeyed to Jackson, Mississippi in 1962, where they laid down roots on West Capitol Street. Claire continued her vocation as a librarian at Millsaps College until the birth of her only child, Scott, in 1964. She subsequently contented herself by socializing with many new friends and doting on her husband, son and, ultimately, granddaughters. Claire and Ed resided throughout Jackson; their street addresses included Garden Park Drive, Norway Drive and Tracewood Drive. In the 1980s and ‘90s, Claire and Ed made their home in Houston, Shreveport, Dallas and Denver, but returned to Mississippi in 2000, settling in Ridgeland.

Claire was fond of Dixieland jazz, oysters and crab legs, figure skating, marching bands, Blue Bell ice cream, black sedans, Mardi Gras and one particular Weimaraner. She played the ukulele and sang barbershop with the Sweet Adelines. Intensely proud of her family, Claire lauded her son’s and granddaughters’ achievements and celebrated their triumphs. Her interest in family heritage was infectious, assuring its endurance. She unfailingly sought the best of everything for her own, but only rarely for herself. Claire was a lifelong student of propriety, never wishing to offend.

Claire leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Edward Christian Andress of Ridgeland; her son Scott Edward Andress (Karla) of Jackson; her granddaughter Rachel Adele Andress of Clemson, South Carolina; and her granddaughter Shelby Quinn Andress of Jackson. Claire was adored and is deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland, Mississippi, on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at noon. Visitation will be held earlier that same day at Parkway Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Claire supported her son’s and granddaughters’ endeavors at Jackson Prep. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claire’s name to the Jackson Preparatory School Marching Band, 3100 Lakeland Drive, Flowood, Mississippi 39232.
