Charles a. Bamberg Jr. was killed in Hugo, Colo., May 24, 1889. Burial was at Collyer, Kan. His parents were esteemed residents of that neighborhood, and he had been employed for several years in L. A. Fisher's store. At the time of his death Charles was on the way to Collyer from a trip of considerable duration in Colorado, New Mexico and other portions of the West and Southwest.

It was rumored he was murdered. The only wound on him was a hole in his head, which seems to have been made by another person. It was first reported he had fallen from the train, and been run over. He is said to have had a cabin-passage ticket to Europe, and that he intended to to take a trip there after visiting his parents. Western Kansas World, 25 May 1889, Sat, Page 5
