CALDWELL, GORDON P., 84, died Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Baptist Hospital East. He was the third generation owner of Caldwell Tanks. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and past president of the Ohio Valley Safety Council. He attended MIT and graduated from the Speed Scientific School at UofL. He served in the US Navy during World War II. His greatest love was the Conrad -Caldwell House Museum on Saint James Court where he gave tours for sixteen years. His grandfather had lived in the house, and he spent much of his childhood there. He was very involved in restoring the house to the manner it was when his grandfather was there, and donated many family items back to the house. He delighted in sharing his knowledge of Louisville and life in the early 1900's. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Jane and his sister, Virginia Steineker and parents, Walter E. and Gertrude Caldwell. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Caldwell, Barbara Huber and her husband, Harold "Red" and Ann Caldwell and her friend, Julia Sparks; his granddaughter, Jamie Ruttinger and her husband, Rick; great- grandsons, Richard Cole and Ty Gordon Ruttinger; sister-in- law, Frances Toombs and his friend, Mary Rondi. The family wishes to express special appreciation to the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at Baptist Hospital East. Funeral service to be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22 at Pearson -Ratterman Bros, 12900 Shelbyville Rd. with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday. Memorial gifts may be made to the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, 1402 St. James Ct., Louisville, KY 40208 or the WHAS Crusade for Children.
