Johnny Wayne Whitley, 71, of Charlotte, NC, passed away November 10, 2018 surrounded by friends and family.
He was born in Charlotte on April 26, 1947. Johnny graduated from Garinger High School and attended Kings College.
He was married to Joanna Fincher Whitley on July 20, 1969.
Johnny worked in Police Telecommunications for the Charlotte Police Department and was named Telecommunicator of the Year in 1992.
He was a member of Grace Crossing Baptist, and had a passion for wood carving. Johnny loved working in his green house, fishing trips to the Outer Banks and cruising to Alaska.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother and two sisters.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 49 plus years and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Grace Crossing Baptist Church, 5600 Rocky River Road, Charlotte, NC 28215. A committal service will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
