Cora was the youngest child of Hiram and Melinda (Lenora) Hall. Hiram was born in Isle La Motte, VT. Lenora was born near Plattsburg, NY and her maiden name was Oliver. The Hall family line in America, Cora's ancestors, begins in the Plymouth Colony in 1637 when George Hall arrived. George would raise his family in Taunton, Massachusetts.

Cora had two half-sisters from Hiram's first marriage; his first wife died. Her other siblings were all full siblings. Her older sibling's name in age order: Roxanna, Matilda Celesta, Myron E, Darwin, Amelia Maria, Emeretta A, Hiram VanRensallaer. All of these siblings were born in Clinton County, New York or Grand Isle, Vermont. Cora was the only child born in Iowa. Her obituary, published in the Nashua Report on August 26, 1931, states she grew up in McGregor, Iowa where she was born and came as a young woman to Nashua where her parents conducted a boarding house on Depot Street for a number of years.

Cora married Lee Howdeshell on Nov 13, 1889. He was a bit older than Cora and from reviewing the census records, I discovered his family had lived near Cora's family so they had been neighbors for several years. They would later move to Minneapolis and then to Minong, Wisconsin. Hiram and Lenora as well as her brother, Darwin, would live with them. Lee and Cora never had any children.

After Lee died, Cora moved in with her nephew, Elwin Wright. She also for a time, lived at the Kendall Home (1929). She was the last survivor of her parents family. She spent her last two years living at the County Home in Mason City, IA where she died.

I am related to Cora through her brother, Myron. He is my great-grandfather. I also was born a Hall.
