Healdton – A gathering of friends and family to honor the life of Mr. Roger Dale Atnip, 67, is scheduled from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday evening, November 12, 2018 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson. Law Enforcement Honors will be provided by the Carter County Sheriff's Department.
Roger was born on August 24, 1951 at McMinnville, TN to the late Mr. Tomie Aubrey Atnip and Mrs. Mable Florence (Burge) Atnip. Roger passed from this life on Friday morning Nov. 9, 2018 at the Mercy Hospital of Healdton.
Roger was raised primarily in Mannsvile where as a young boy enjoyed playing baseball. Initially he was employed as a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker before he began a career in Law Enforcement. His first position as an officer was serving at the Ardmore Police Dept. He left there for a position at the Carter County Sheriff's Department before being employed as a Criminal Investigator for the District Attorney's office. All together he served almost 28 years in Law Enforcement and departments alike of this area.
Roger married the former Jo Wales on July 11, 1986 at Gainesville, TX. They enjoyed residing on their farm in Healdton for many years where Roger liked to fish and shoot guns. He also enjoyed golfing from time to time and was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Healdton.
Preceding him in death are his parents and numerous siblings.
Survivors include his loving wife Jo of the home in Healdton; daughter, Tiffany Atnip of Ardmore; grandson, Sean Atnip and a special grandson, Cody Conway; his mother in law, Geneva Wales of Healdton; sisters, Louise Pennington and husband Danny of Ardmore and Joy Fernandez of Buchanan Dam, TX; brothers, Bobby Atnip and wife Janice and Aubrey Atnip, both of Ardmore; colleague and valued friend, Gary Watson ; numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
