Mr. Stealy, 82, of 187 Homan Ave., died Feb. 23, 2005 in Hubbard Hill Estates. He was born March 2, 1922, in Goshen, to Oscar P. and Lucretia (Pletcher) Stealy. He married Norma M. Smith on July 1, 1947, in Georgia. She died April 4, 1980, in South Bend. He married Henrietta (Kwant) Martin on Dec. 29, 1984, in Osceola. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Connie J. (Robert) James of Mishawaka and Nancy J. (Roger) Fieldhouse of Auburn; five grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Judy A. Monk of Elkhart and Sonie S. (Steve) Vargo of Union, Mich.; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Wilma (Lloyd) Hess of Jimtown and Emma (Seth) Rohrer of Illinois. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Mr. Stealy graduated in 1941 from Wakarusa High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in February 1943. In April, he was shipped to Liverpool, England, and then to France two days after D-Day. In 1944, he was shot and became a prisoner of war. He then was sent to a small camp close to Bonn, Germany, where a Polish doctor removed a bullet from his foot. He then stayed in a medical camp for three months. Mr. Stealy was a POW in Germany, working on the railroad, until the war was over. When he was freed, he was so ill from the camp conditions that he had to stay in a hospital in France for a month and a half. He came home to New York on the Fourth of July in 1945. He was employed at CTS Corp. for 28 years, where he retired as a group leader in the plastics division in 1981. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club at CTS, Osceola Grace Brethren Church and he attended local POW meetings.
