ELKHART -- Amber Irene Pletcher, 88, of Elkhart, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday (April 26, 2007) in Hubbard Hill Estates. She was born March 5, 1919, in Elkhart to Clayton B. and Leona E. (Pletcher) Thornton. On Feb. 7, 1942, in Denver, she married Donald L. Pletcher. He died Oct. 24, 1998. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Michael) O'Hair of Houston and Lisa (Alan) Tarchala of Plymouth; three sons, Donald R. (Linda) and Thomas J. (Dana) Pletcher, both of Elkhart, and William T. (Leanne) Pletcher of Kona, Hawaii; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Victor Thornton. Friends may call two hours prior to the noon Saturday funeral service at Hubbard Hill Estates Chapel, with the Revs. Wayne Speicher and Katurah Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, 403 W. Franklin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Pletcher was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school and was a member of Book Guild One, the Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. She was a charter member of Elcona Country Club and served on the Family Services board and the board of trustees for Haven Hubbard (Hamilton Grove) in New Carlisle. Mrs. Pletcher was a graduate of North Central College. Memorials may be given to Bethel United Methodist Church or Hubbard Hill Estates.
