BARNES Virginia H. January 10, 1920 November 2, 2018 Virginia H. Barnes, 98, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 2, 2018. She joins her husband, M.D. Barnes, Lt. Col., USAF, Ret.; her father and mother, Porter and Frances Skelton; her two sisters, Mary Bonner and Francis Kechter; in addition to many friends who were believers. Virginia was born in Huntsville, Texas, on January 10, 1920. She married Macasline D. Barnes in July of 1941. Their son, Macasline D. Barnes Jr., was born in December of 1943 at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Virginia was a career Air Force wife living in many states and in Japan during the Korean War. After retirement, M.D. and Virginia moved back to Texas until she moved to Roanoke in October of 2009 to be with her family. Virginia was active in church work wherever she lived and was a women's Sunday School teacher for many years. She would like everyone to know that she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and is with Him today based on His promises in the Bible. Virginia pleads that you accept Christ too. She was greatly loved by all her family. Virginia had three granddaughters, Christy Parker and husband, Travis, Amanda Taylor and husband, Keith, and Megan Biggio and husband, Tommy. She also has four great-grandchildren, Jackson Graham Taylor, Ryleigh Taylor, Bryson Taylor and Aven Biggio. Her daughter-in-law, Tillie Barnes, was very close to Virginia. A Short Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor Chuck Stanley and Pastor John Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Southwest Virginia State Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Va. The family will greet friends an hour before the service at the funeral home.
