The Taranaki Head Centre of the Royal Live Saving Society at New' Plymouth last night expressed sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. Arthur [sic] Leslie McAllum, who had rendered the society valuable services. Mr. McAllum died on Saturday afternoon at the age of 42 years. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan McAllum, Ridge Lane, New Plymouth. An insurance agent prior to the Great War, he joined the New Zealand forces, and, leaving with the 13th reinforcement, he saw considerable service in France. He was-severely gassed at Havrincourt Wood in 1918 and was invalided home, never, however, fully recovering from his war injuries. He had been in and out of hospital ever since his return from France. (Taranaki Daily News, March 19, 1935)
