S. Newton Kelso, 77, of 121 Belmont Ave., died at 10:50 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19, 1965 after being admitted to the Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born in Cecil Township Oct. 29, 1887, a son of James and Minnie Gladden Kelso.
Mr. Kelso was a member of the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church, serving as trustee and head usher for many years, and was head of the Men's Bible Class.
He was a banker, starting with the Commonwealth Trust Company, of Pittsburgh, in 1914, moving to cashier at the Bank of Morrisdale from 1922 to 1929, and then to the Russell National Bank, of Lewistown. Retiring from banking in 1945, he became office manager for the Universal Oil Company, of Canonsburg, and was recently made inspector for the Borough of Canonsburg in the construction of the new Municipal Building.
Mr. Kelso was married to Mary L. McNary on June 22, 1915. Surviving beside his wife are three sons: S. Newton Kelso Jr., of Monroe, Mich.; John McNary Kelso, of Waldwick, N. J.; and Robert Gladden Kelso, of St. Albans, W.V Va., a brother, Boyd J. Kelso, of Canonsburg; an aunt. Mrs. Kate Gladden, of Canonsburg, and nine grandchildren.
