Clement was the second child born to John and Lydia (Bunker) Hawkins. He was living in Center Harbor as early as 1790. He was taxed at West Center Harbor, New Hampshire 12 November 1800. He owned "Towle Island" on Squam Lake in 1806. He sold the island in 1814. He was taxed in Holderness, New Hampshire in 1820. Clement married Mehitable (surname unknown) in 1789 or 1790. By 1829 it is known that Clement and Mehitable's son Moses Hawkins and his family, and daughters Mary Jane, Sarah "Sally", and Lucettia Hawkins had migrated to Barnston, Stanstead County, Province of Quebec, Canada. It is believed Clement and Mehitable also went to Canada but that is not certain. The three daughters would marry in Barnston, P.Q. Canada. Mary Jane married Ebenezer Lincoln. Sarah married Calvin Dresser, and Lucettia married Jonathan Ellis. The other children of Clement and Mehitable, Nancy who married Oliver Lee, Lydia Bunker Hawkins who married Charles Granderson Dow, Comfort who would marry Charles Granderson Dow after her sister Lydia died in 1829, Benjamin T. Hawkins (twin to Sarah), and John Smith Hawkins remained in Center Harbor, New Hampshire. By 1838 or the early 1840's , the families left Canada together and moved through Vermont, New Hampshire, and later New York before finally going to Rush Township, near Woodstock, Champaign County, Ohio by 1847. Documentation for Clement and Mehitable has been sought since the 1900's through the 1960's by Charles Homan Hawkins who spent over 50 years researching the descendants of Stephen and Sarah (Whitehouse) Hawkins, which included Clement's parents, siblings, and their children. As of 2018, Clement and Mehitable continue to be a mystery although their descendants are known and can be traced throughout the United States. In 1855, two children of Clement and Mehitable, Sarah and husband Calvin Dresser, and Lucettia and husband Jonathan Ellis left Ohio and settled in Postville, Allamakee County, Iowa. A few years later they were joined by their brother John Smith Hawkins and wife Abigail Chase, and Comfort Dow who was now a widow. Their descendants remained in Allamakee County. In the 1950's and 60's, Charles Homan Hawkins contacted my grandmother and her first cousin who were descendants of Sarah (Hawkins) and Calvin Dresser. There was a considerable amount of HAWKINS FAMILY HISTORY which was sent to them. In the mid-1970's, Grandma's cousin was deceased and Grandma had to enter a Good Samaritan Home. I ended up with the materials and since that time I have continued the work of Charles Homan Hawkins by continuing to fill in the missing pieces, correct any errors, and update. I have also shared the HAWKINS HISTORY with others who are researching their own family trees because of the work of Charles Homan Hawkins (1877-1972) Memorial Park Cemetery and Crematorium, Skokie, Cook County, Illinois FIND A GRAVE MEMORIAL # 166774459.
