Elizabeth Saltonstall Cotton was the only daughter of the Hon. Col. Nathaniel Saltonstall, Esq. and sister to the Hon. Gurdon Saltonstall, Esq., Governor of Connecticut. She was married to (1) Rev. John Denison of Ipswich. After his death in 1689, she married (2)Rev. Roland Cotton of Sandwich, Barnstable Co., MA. By him, she had ten children, five of them sons. After the death of her husband, she moved to Boston and resided there until her death. "She was known to be a person of very superior wit, knowledge and virtue, from her youth up".
Elizabeth died in Boston, on a Friday, July 8, 1726, after a short illness with a fever. According to the Boston News, she was buried 14 Jul 1726.
