Clyde William Backman, 76, of Norway, SC, passed away October 31, 2018. He was the husband of Tarzie Watts Backman. Clyde was born January 21, 1942, in Lexington, SC to Lonnie William Backman and Annie Lee Spires Backman.

He was a graduate of Brookland-Cayce high school, a farmer, and retired as a controller for Carolina Eastman. Clyde was a member of Orangeburg Baptist Tabernacle and a member of Gideons International.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years of the home; son, Stoney Bachman of Norway; daughter, Sarah Ann Rutland of Norway; brother, Irby Bachman (Sherrie) of Lexington;; sisters, Shirley Barr (Glenn) of Norway, Girley Mae Rawl (Phil) of South Congaree, and Milley Corley of Redbank; three grandchildren, Ashley Wade (Wesley) and Faith and Lance Bachman; and three great-grandchildren, Garrett, Gabby, and Graydon Wade. He was predeceased by a brother, Franklin Bachman and step-mother, Marie Bachman.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Orangeburg Baptist Tabernacle, with the Reverend Thomas Brookshire and Lee Howze officiating. Burial will follow in the Norway Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 11:30 AM prior to the service at Orangeburg Baptist Tabernacle. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Glenn Allen, Bragg Williams, Martin Williams, Bert Copeland, Stephen Rutland, and Klaus Franke. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Beaver, Tommy Gibson and Henry Dyson. Memorials may be made to Orangeburg Baptist Tabernacle Building Fund, 3440 North Road, Orangeburg, SC 29118. Dukes Harley Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
