Beginning with a 1-year stint at Sanger ISD in 1956, Greta enjoyed 40-year career in teaching. She taught multiple levels at SISD and started the STARS program serving as both teacher and Director of Gifted Education. She also served a term as Curriculum Director. All her students were special to her.

Greta was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities. Greta visited most of the states as well as Canada (Quebec), Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales), China, and Zambia (2-week safari with Troy and celebrated their 35th anniversary there (she caught lots of fish in the Lunsemfwa River including the entrée for the anniversary dinner – Cornish jack)). She enjoyed many types of music and had taken piano lessons as a young lady. She also studied stained glass art. Reading was another lifetime interest as were flowers and birds.

Greta was a direct descendant of Col. Elias Dayton, Continental Army (later, Maj. General of New Jersey Militia) and a collateral descendant of Jonathan Dayton the youngest signer of the U.S. Constitution (one of the sons of Col. Dayton).
