3rd Corp. Co. D., 40th AL Inf.
Henry enlisted in Co. "D", 40th AL Inf Reg, CSA, on March 22, 1862. He fought and was captured at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. He rejoined his unit in SEptember 1863 after a prisoner exchange. He was captured again Nov 24, 1863 at the Battle of Lookout Mountain, TN. He was incarcerated in the Union Prison Camp at Rock Island, IL until Mar 22, 1865 when he was transfered out in another prisor exchange.

He married Mary Lucinda Smith Butler on Apr 6, 1868 in Lauderdale County, MS. She was the widow of Ford Butler who died in a Union prison camp during the Civil War. He raised her two children from her marriage to Ford Butler. They started marriage in Lauderdale County, Mississippi then moved to Choctaw County, AL in early 1871.

1) Darius Vinson, b. December 28, 1868
2) Charles T. Vinson, b. March 26, 1871
3) Mary Drucilla Vinson, b. May 1873
4) Rufus R. Vinson, b. November 21, 1878
5) Eddie Vinson, b. October 03, 1882

After four years in Choctaw County, they moved in 1875 to Port Sullivan in Milan County, Texas. Just after 1900 they moved to Van Zandt County in East Texas and then in 1905 they moved again to Rankin in Ellis County, Texas. They moved a final time between 1920 and 1924 to Scurry in Kaufman County where they lived with their grandson, Henry Howell Vinson. Henry Harrison Vinson died in Scurry on January 08, 1928.
