'SHEP' GIRAULT IS DEAD AFTER SUDDEN ILLNESS
Edward Shepherd (Shep) Girault, 51, one of the most prominent men in the insurance field in north Louisiana and noted golf champion of the south, died early Friday. He had been seriously ill for three or four days following a sudden heart attack. Funeral plans had not been completed but services will be held in the Hixson Funerral Home Chapel, which will effect all funeral arrangements.

Born in New Orleans, Mr. Girault, received his early education there. Early in his life she showed skill in athletics and especially in gold. He came with his family to Monroe to reside 30 years ago and entered the insurance business, following golf as a sideline for the pleasure he afforded.

He was, some time ago, successful in winning the title of golf champion of the south and was honored by election as president of the Louisiana Golf Association. He had been a member of the Rotary Club here but pressure of work caused his withdrawal later.

He was member of Grace Episcopal Church and was active in various civic enterprises. The Chamber of Commerce of Monroe and West Monroe elected him as vice-president in 1953.

Of a friendly nature, he made friends easily and this characteristic was to a large degree responsible for his success. For some years he had headed the Girault Insurance Agency, with offices in the Ouachita National Bank building and was a former president of the Ouachita Insurance Exchange.

Mr. Girault is survived by his wife:
Bernice Jones Girault
Four daughters:
Ada Ellis Girault (Mrs. R. C. Limerick) of Little Rock, Arkansas
Dorothea Girault Garrett (Mrs. David I. Garrett, Jr. ) of Monroe
Arden Girault (Mrs. W. E. McDowell) of Monroe later Houston
Miss Bernice S. Girault, a student in Neville High School
Two brothers:
Hunter Girault of Little Rock, Arkansas
Walter Girault of New Orleans
Three sisters:
Miss Carol Girault of New Orleans
Miss Carmelite Girault of New Orleans
Mrs. Edwin Jane of New Orleans
