Memorial
Of the Death of J. C. Hill the eldest son of J. J. Hill, near Rancho, Texas, who departed from this life March 2, 1887, with disease of the breast and lungs. He came with his father and two brothers from Mississippi to Texas about 15 years ago, and was partly raised here.
As a son he was humble, obedient, industrious, and respectful; as a husband, affectionate, attentive and self-sacrificing; as a father, strict, kind and providing; as a neighbor, peaceable, obliging and edifying; as a christian, zealous, hopeful and constant; as an associate, communicative, pleasant and cheerful; as a friend, steadfast and unchangeable, as a citizen, honest; as a sufferer, patient, submissive and resigned to the call of his Master.
Our Calvin will be missed. He leaves an amiable wife and two little sons, a father and two brothers, many relatives and a large number of friends to mourn his loss. May God sustain and comfort the bereaved family, as he alone can. Aged about 32 years. E. A. T.
