Helen Marie Asbell Elliott, 94, of W. Queen Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018, in Vidant Chowan Hospital.

Mrs. Elliott was born in Chowan County on January 18, 1924, and was the daughter of the late John Henry Asbell, Sr. and Bertie Cobb Asbell.

An office clerk with Pyrofax Gas Company in earlier years, she then devoted her life to being a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Edenton Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Thomas Elliott, Jr.; her brother, John H. Asbell, Jr.; and by a son-in-law, Mike Deems.

Surviving are her children, Diane Deems and companion, Doug Brickhouse, of Hertford, Cindy Elliott and companion, Phil Long, of Edenton, and William T. “Bill” Elliott, III and wife, LouAnn of Edenton; two granddaughters, Beth McCrodden and husband, Craig, and Sara Jones and husband, Dustin; three great-grandsons, Peyton, Hudson, and Weston; a niece, Katherine Ann Keel; a nephew, Ricky Asbell; a special cousin, Joan Boswell; and her favorite feline companion, “Smokey”.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
