A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Montrose. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Homes Martin Chapel on Tuesday, July 11 from 3:00 to 8:00pm with a Knights of Columbus service at 7:00pm, and also at the church on Wednesday from 10:00am until the service.
Alan was born on September 1, 1949 to Norris and Luella (Metiva) Shripka in Saginaw. He graduated from St. Andrew's School in Saginaw, attended Delta College, and earned his Associate's Degree from Pittsburgh Institute of Technology. Alan married Margaret R. Mattes on August 18, 1972 at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Saginaw.
During his life, Alan had many talents. He worked for Ed Lyne's Floor Covering for many years, owned and operated Al's Carpet Service, worked as a Supervisor at Peet Packing, and he was a 20-year retired United States Army Reserves Military Police Rank First Sergeant. At age 44, he returned to school to become a certified orthotist. He worked with Wright and Filippis for 19 years, and then worked with the wonderful people at Oakland Orthopedic's for his remaining years before retirement. For Alan, his family and his patients were always his top priority. He also had great pleasure when able to help veterans.
Alan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret Shripka; his children, Therese (Gary) Kish, Monica (Matthew) Jenrow, and Anthony Shripka; his grandchildren, Brady, Michael, Marcus, Megan, and Emmy; his brother-in-law, Don Harper; and his in-laws, Lucy (Richard) McInerney, William (Jacque) Mattes, Joan (Dale) Pepper, Jean (Herb) Mielke, Mary (Richard) Chislea, Judy (Steve) Thrall, Joseph Mattes, Cathy Mattes, and Gerard (Nancy) Mattes; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Norris and Luella; his sister, Joan Harper; his nephew, Mark Harper; and his godsons, Robert A. Traub and Tom Lynes.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Knights of Columbus of Montrose.
