Virginia Menschner is Longest Standing Honorary Chief of the Suffern Fire Department, a founding member of the Village of Suffern Community Foundation, a member of the Village of Suffern Museum, a long serving member of the Village of Suffern Advisory Board on Culture and Recreation, and spent many years as a volunteer with the Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corps, also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. The Virginia Menschner Gazebo in Avon Park, named in recognition for her outstanding service to our community, will forever proudly stand in her honor. She first started working in the Village of Suffern in 1958, and was sworn in to be Village Registra in 1963 by Mayor Rice.
With diligence and proficiency, Virginia served under the administrations of thirteen Mayors and was responsible for the smooth running of daily operations. Along with the numerous awards and recognitions she has received from the New York State Conference of Mayors and other notable organizations, a Pink Weeping Cherry Tree was planted on the lawn of the Village Hall in honor of Virginia's contributions. A plaque sits beneath this beautiful tree that will forever remind us of a woman of strength, courage, and dedication to her community. "Though we weep for the loss of our dear Virginia, she remains with us through the reports and files handwritten in the epitome of the Palmer Method of penmanship. They will forever speak to us with the clarity, precision, and beauty of the woman who wrote them".
On behalf of the Village Board and the Village Staff, we say goodbye and extend our deepest sympathies to the devoted family that she so dearly loved. She is survived by a multitude of loving family friends and co-workers and the entire Village of Suffern. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern. Burial will follow at the St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet, NY. Friends and relatives are invited on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Scarr Funeral Home Inc., 160 Orange Avenue, Suffern, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hi Tor Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
