Juanita Helen Marsden
JANUARY 9, 1925 – OCTOBER 19, 2018

Proverbs 31:10, 25-30 An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels… She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

Juanita “Nita” Helen Marsden spent her entire life living as Proverbs 31 directs, studying God's word, being a faithful Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She passed along to her family her love of the Lord and her faith in His good will. A kind, gentle, Godly spirit has left us, and will be missed by everyone who had the great fortune to meet her. Surrounded by family, she slipped quietly into the arms of her husband, Joe Marsden, who preceded her in death by 11 years, as Jesus welcomed her into His presence. She no longer feels pain, or frustration, or sadness but is rejoicing in heaven with the saints.

Nita was born in Marshall, Texas on January 9, 1925 to Beulah and Basil Watson, and spent the first 6 years of life in the Sand Hills of East Texas before moving to Dallas. She graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1941 and married Joe Marsden on December 21, 1946. She was a loving, faithful wife and companion until his death in 2007. She was a member of Memorial church of Christ in Houston, and was previously a member of White Rock church of Christ and Garland Rd. church of Christ, both in Dallas. She moved to Houston in September, 2014 to be closer to family where she lived a strong and independent life until the end, just as she wished, still tending to her beautiful flowerbed and keeping her apartment tidy.

She loved to bake and shared her treats with “the old people” at Christian Care Center when she still lived in Dallas, which made us all laugh because at the time, she was probably older than many of “the old people” at Christian Care Center. She made the best pie crusts and hot rolls, the best pot roast, and the best cakes of anyone, ever and always had a chocolate pie for her son-in-law whenever he came to visit.

Nita and her husband Joe were among the original pillars of Garland Rd. church of Christ in Dallas from its beginning in the mid-1950’s and were instrumental in the growth and success of the visitation groups and 39er’s, as well as Christian Care Center. Her heart stayed full of love and memories of the good old days when all of the families were so close in heart, raising their children together in the Lord. It makes Heaven even sweeter for all of us for that reunion one day.

Nita is survived by her cherished only daughter, Jo Ann and her beloved son-in-law Ralph, her precious granddaughter, Katie, on whom she doted her entire life, and her sweet husband, John, as well as her favorite little granddog, Jimmy, who loved her dearly. She left behind many relatives who loved her as well as countless friends who greatly mourn her passing.

Much gratitude and thankfulness goes to the kind and loving staff at Bayou Vista assisted living at Eagles Trace in Houston. It would be impossible to overstate the appreciation we feel toward them as they cared for her the last year of her life, enabling her to live as independently as she possibly could. In addition, the hospice nurses of A-Med were as kind and gentle with her as if she was their own family, providing her with comfort, safety and dignity while she transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly one.

A memorial service will be held in Dallas at the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave. on Saturday, November 10th at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The White Rock Fund: http://whiterockfund.org/ P.O. Box 180274 Dallas, Texas 75218 [email protected]

“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” II Timothy 4:6-7
