Mrs. Sarah E. Pettit, 71, wife of William P. Pettit, 890 Allison avenue, Washington, died at her home Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock following an illness of one week. She was the daughter of I. L. and Sidney Skiles of Canonsburg and was born January 27, 1872. Mr. and Mrs. Pettit celebrated their golden wedding anniversary March 5, 1940.
She was a member of the Third Presbyterian church, Washington, and a member of the Woman's Missionary society, and took an active part in the affairs pf the congregation. She was also a member of the Current Events club.
Mrs. Pettit is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Best, Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Mrs. Ericson Reed, New Orleans, La.; William Robert and Sally Drum and Richard Best, Jr., Pittsburgh, and one brother, James L. Skiles, Canonsburg.
Funeral services will be held at the Ritchie & Piatt Funeral Home, Washington, Saturday, April 24, at 2 p. m in charge of the Rev. W. F. Harkey. Interment in Oak Spring cemetery.
