FATAL BURNS
KILLING OFF WEEDS SODIUM CHLORATE IGNITES A WHANGARATA FARMER. Severe burns to the right side and arms, from which he later died in hospital, were received by a farmer yesterday while engaged in burning off scrub and noxious weeds on a farm near Tuakau. The victim was:— Mr. Frank Ernest Woodford Smith aged 43, a farmer, of Whangarata near Tuakau. Mr. Smith was using sodium chlorate at the time of the accident and his clothing became ignited.
