Rosa "Rose" Amelia Umscheid Cunningham was the daughter of Vincent Umscheid and Anna Louise Ryffel Umscheid. She was their oldest child and daughter. She was the mother of my mother, Cecilia, and my grandmother. She was a loving grandmother and what I know about her was from my immediate family. I was only two years old when she died, but I do remember a little bit about her. I remember about her fixing a slice of bread, covered with butter and brown sugar!
She married Joseph Hugh Cunningham in 1897 at Flush, Kansas. They lived at Flush in their early marriage years. Then they moved to Topeka where they lived the rest of their lives.
Rose (Rosa) Amelia Umscheid Cunningham died of heart problems at the home of her daughter, Cecilia Cunningham Muller. My mother had been taking care of Rose for awhile as she was sick in bed. Our home was located at 202 Davies Street in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. Rose had been having heart problems for quite awhile.
Joseph and Rose Umscheid) Cunningham have two granddaughters buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas. They are Muriel Marie Muller and Joan Muller, daughters of Victor P. Muller and Lydia Lucinda Cunningham Muller. Muriel and Joan both died in 1945 the same day only 5 minutes apart at the home of their parents. They died of diptheria.
