GARRETT, Leonard James Dixon Born in Edmonton, Alberta on March 31, 1921, Len Garrett passed away peacefully on January 14, 2007 at the age of 85. Len will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Betty, his three daughters, Peggy (Rick Smith), Liz (Ron Knowlton), and Jane (Dave Ouellette), his grandchildren Amy, Linette, Lis, Tug, Jeff, Cari, Sue, Peter, Katy, Dan and Mike and ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Claudy in 1981 and his sister Lorna in 2006. Len was proud of his service with the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve on the Iroquois in World War II. He stayed active as a reserve officer until 1965, during which time he was commander of Nonsuch and Honorary Aide de Camp to Govenor General Vanier. Len had a long distinguished career in education as a teacher, counsellor, administrator, and was instrumental in starting the Continuing Education program in Edmonton. Len and Betty retired to Victoria in 1979 where they enjoyed many years with their special friends before returning to Edmonton in 2005. Len's loves were golfing, gardening, fishing, playing bridge, and spending time with his family. A celebration of his life will be held at the Devonshire Village (1120 Tory Road, Edmonton) at 2pm on Saturday, January 20th. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
