The daughter of Joshua and Mary (Nichols) Upham, Sarah married Daniel Sharp Ford on October 21, 1844. They were the parents of a son, Arthur Daniel, born April 28, 1846 and died Sept. 9, 1848, and two daughters,two daughters, Ella Sarah, born Feb. 3, 1850, and Ida Eliabeth, born Nov. 13, 1853 and died Feb. 9, 1864.Her husband was the highly successful publisher of The Youth's Companion, the profits of which allowed Sarah to live in luxurious surroundings, replete with summer houses and yachts.

A congregant of the Ruggles St. Baptist Church in Boston, Sarah preceded her husband in death by 15 years when she died of heart disease at a summer home in Marblehead.
