On February 26, 1948, Bessie was united in marriage with Abb Rhodes, Jr. at the First United Methodist Church of Brookshire. Their beautiful love story lasted 56 years until Abb's passing. Bessie was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She treasured every moment she spent with her family. On the weekends, she loved going with her husband and kids to their ranch in Williamson County. After retirement, Bessie and Abb bought a lake house on Lake LBJ. A lot of time was spent at the lake house making fun memories with her family and lake house buddies. In her spare time, Bessie very much enjoyed gardening and playing piano. She also adored her Pomeranian whom she named Abb, after her husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Turner and husband, Richard, of Cypress; granddaughters, Heather Wolfe and husband, Rex, of League City, Tabby Meginnis and husband, Garry, of Temple, and Amanda Guillians of Huffman; 10 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Tiffany, Katelyn, Grace, Brooke, Zanna, Kelsey, Collin, Cassidy, and Addie; 3 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Dayl and Donnell; nephews, Darryl, Duff, and Mike; and many friends.
Bessie was preceded in death by her loving husband: Abb Rhodes, Jr.; parents, Elza and Aghney Martin; daughter, Joyce Rhodes; granddaughter, Julie Wallace; and sister, Alice Martin and Mary Henry.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, at Schmidt Funeral Home, 819 Waller Ave., Brookshire, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at First United Methodist Church of Brookshire, 707 Cooper Street in Brookshire.
